Doozy world headlines

If you want to feel all warm and fuzzy, google the word 'Cwtch'. Okay, don't bother, I will just tell you. It means a super special hug that makes you feel warm and safe- something that we all need. (sigh)

The dark pit that you feel in your stomach because of the recent few incidents in our nation is something that we all need to pay heed to. Because you are not the only one feeling restless and hopeless, it's all of us.
Is this how everything will go down?

No, because ignoring the problems, is not the solution. The first thing and the most basic duty, that we as citizens can do, is a simple task- awareness and alertness about what is happening around us.

And if you feel dazed while trying to be up-to-date with the worldly affairs, don't worry. Today, we will summarise some recent news headlines and try to feel a little less confused about what is wrong with the world. (But I make no promises)

  • Toxic and hateful content is an emerging problem in India and Facebook is under the radar for allegedly being reckless about malicious content on its platform during the Delhi riots. The Peace and Harmony committee of Delhi Assembly has summoned Facebook India's Vice-President Ajit Mohan over the issue. Mr Mohan has filed a plea in the Supreme court challenging the notice by the committee.

  • For the very first time, two Indian women officers will be operating helicopters from Navy warships. Sub Lt. Kumudini Tyagi and Sub Lt. Riti Singh are the chosen ones and it only embarks the way for many such brave female officers in the future to be posted on the warships. One word- Iconic.

  •  Incidents of rape and abuse against women are on the rise in our nation. The recent Hathras rape case has shocked the nation and reminded us, that nothing has changed from the 2012 Nirbhaya case until today. The details of the incident are heart-wrenching and horrifying. A 19-year-old Dalit girl was gang-raped and brutally tortured and died in a hospital after fighting for two weeks for her life. This also throws light on the fact that caste-based crimes are still a problem in our society.

  • Russia's opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been released from the hospital. Okay, If you are confused, I will quickly explain. Mr Navalny is an opposition leader and a strong Kremlin critic.  He was poisoned with a nerve agent called Novichok. He was then airlifted from Russia to Germany where he was being treated up until now. Germany believes that the Russian government was involved with the poisoning but the government has denied the allegations. (No surprise there)
  • The National Human rights commission has issued recommendations for the authorities which include-Provide free COVID-19 treatment to every patient, Free COVID tests in government centres and set a maximum price for private centres, pay the entire fees to health care workers and doctors, counselling for patients by mental health professionals.

  • A war-like situation has emerged between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the disputed region of Nagorny Karabakh. Both the countries are facing international pressure for a ceasefire due to the fear of involvement of key allies of both countries which can result in a major clash and international dispute. Azerbaijan is backed by Turkey and Russia has a military base in Armenia.

India has completed 74 years of Independence but elections to this day are fought on agendas of caste and religion and not on healthcare and employment.

There is a lot that you and I don't know or simply don't care about but one day it can all come back and hit us like a train wreck.
Toxic is not cool

So, talk to your parents about important issues, get educated ( read: roasted) and educate them about the problems of toxic media, fake news and family good morning messages.

Focus on what's important for the well being of our society, take interest in current affairs because honestly, it can be quite entertaining sometimes and maybe then we can look for solutions, one step at a time.

Also, watch Schitt's Creek on Netflix, if you haven't already because its the best...just saying.
